ARVA’s Executive Director Amy Johnson Named to AMP’s 2026 Influencers of the Year List
Published February 2, 2026
When a leader’s impact is measured in opportunity, the ripple effect reaches every corner of the state. Arkansas Money & Politics (AMP) has named Arkansas Virtual Academy Executive Director Amy Johnson to its 2026 Influencers of the Year list, recognizing Arkansans whose leadership and vision are helping shape the future. Honorees are selected by an independent panel of Arkansas business and civic leaders and are featured in AMP’s January 2026 issue.
“Being included in AMP’s Influencers of the Year list is an incredible honor,” Amy said. “For more than 20 years, ARVA has broadened what learning can look like for Arkansas students, and I am proud to be part of that legacy. Every achievement we celebrate is made possible by our students, families, and educators who believe in the power of innovation in public education. This recognition reflects their hard work and the impact ARVA continues to make across our state.”
Expanding Access for Arkansas Families
As ARVA marks almost 25 years of service to Arkansas families, Amy continues to advance the mission that has guided the school since its founding in 2003: expanding access to high-quality public education for every child, no matter their background or zip code. Today, ARVA has grown to serve more than 6,300 students across all 75 counties, reflecting its broad statewide reach and ongoing demand for public virtual education.
With more than 30 years of experience in education, Amy is known for steady leadership that brings calm clarity to complex work, keeping decisions grounded in purpose and people. Under her leadership, ARVA has continued to grow and evolve to meet the needs of families across the state.
Growth That Meets Students Where They Are
In 2025, ARVA earned approval from the Arkansas State Board of Education to raise its enrollment cap from 5,500 to 7,000 students, reflecting strong demand for the school’s student-centered approach. Amy also oversaw the creation of K12’s first Education Hub, a 50,000-square-foot facility in Little Rock that supports hands-on learning opportunities, teacher development, and community engagement.
That commitment to real-world readiness is showing up in student outcomes. In 2025, ARVA celebrated 576 graduates, including students who earned 169 industry-recognized certifications, completed 133 dual-enrollment college credits, accepted 56 job offers, and entered 15 military service pathways.
Innovation in Public Education
Amy also received the Changemaker Award from the Arkansas Public School Resource Center in May 2025 for her innovation and leadership in public education.
In 2026, Amy remains focused on building systems, supports, and opportunities that help students thrive and grow, while standing in the gap for the diverse needs families bring to virtual learning.
