Stories & Spotlights
We SHINE Together at ARVA

At Arkansas Virtual Academy (ARVA), learning is a team effort — and our families are a big part of that team! We believe every child has the power to S.H.I.N.E., and with the support of caring parents, learning coaches, and teachers, our students can grow into confident, curious, and capable lifelong learners.

Each letter in S.H.I.N.E. represents one of the learner dispositions that help our students thrive both in and out of the classroom — and families play a key role in developing each one.

💪 S — Stick With It (Perseverance)

Learning isn’t always easy, and that’s okay! At ARVA, we teach students that perseverance means giving their best effort — even when things get tough. Families can encourage this by celebrating effort, not just outcomes. A few kind words like “I’m proud of how hard you worked on that assignment” can make a big difference.

💖 H — Have Courage (Courage)

It takes courage to try new things, ask for help, or take on a challenge. Families can nurture courage by reminding students that mistakes are part of learning and that every attempt helps them grow. When students see their Learning Coaches cheering them on, they feel brave enough to take those next steps.

🔍 I — Investigate & Ask (Curiosity)

Curiosity keeps learning exciting! Families can inspire curiosity by encouraging students to ask questions, explore new interests, and make connections between what they learn and the world around them. Whether it’s a kitchen science experiment or a nature walk, curiosity leads to discovery.

💭 N — Notice & Reflect (Reflection)

Reflection helps students recognize their progress and set new goals. Families can support this by asking simple questions like “What was something new you learned today?” or “What do you want to work on next?” When students pause to reflect, they build confidence and a deeper understanding of their learning journey.

😊 E — Express a Positive Attitude (Positivity)

Positivity is contagious! Families can help students stay optimistic by modeling a positive attitude toward challenges and changes. When Learning Coaches celebrate small wins and encourage gratitude, students learn to see the bright side — even when things don’t go perfectly.

Together, We Help Students S.H.I.N.E.

At ARVA, we know that education works best when schools and families work hand in hand. When students learn to Stick With It, Have Courage, Investigate & Ask, Notice & Reflect, and Express a Positive Attitude, they don’t just become better students — they become stronger, more confident individuals.

Because at ARVA, learning isn’t just something students do alone — it’s something we do together. Learn more about us today!
