Testing and Assessment FAQs
What tests are required as part of the program?
In addition to K12 lesson, unit, and semester assessments, ARVA students in grades 3 through 10 will take the ACT Aspire. Students in kindergarten through second grade will complete Star360 assessments. These tests are a required part of participation in ARVA. Students also participate in other assessments, including school and state-mandated, used to drive instruction and monitor progress.
How is student progress assessed?
Grades K–5 are mastery based, meaning students master concepts before moving on to the next lesson. Middle school students follow a letter grade-based system that is scored more traditionally. High school students follow a course progression with their teachers and class and are scored more traditionally. Teachers of students in all grades will assess mastery and provide feedback to students and families.
