Arkansas Virtual Academy Executive Director Amy Johnson Honored with 2025 Changemaker Award

At Arkansas Virtual Academy (ARVA), we believe in recognizing the people who make a lasting impact, and now the state has done the same. Executive Director Amy Johnson was recently named the 2025 Changemaker Award recipient by the Arkansas Public School Resource Center (APSRC), a recognition that highlights the bold, student-centered leadership she brings to ARVA every day.

The award was presented at the inaugural SPARK Symposium for Charter Schools, held May 20 in Little Rock. Designed to celebrate those who are helping reimagine what public education can be, the Changemaker Award honors leaders who are moving the needle for students through innovation, connection and community.

Since stepping into her role, Johnson has led ARVA through steady, meaningful growth, expanding enrollment to serve more than 5,400 students across Arkansas. Under her leadership, ARVA has earned back-to-back recognition as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts® National Showcase School District. It is just one reflection of the school culture she has cultivated, where students and staff alike are supported, empowered and seen.

Johnson’s tenure has also been marked by a commitment to continual academic progress. From gains in state-issued letter grades to increased performance on statewide assessments, ARVA’s academic trajectory under her leadership is clear. Behind those numbers is a team that is grounded in data, driven by purpose and guided by her belief that every student deserves access to high-quality learning opportunities, no matter where they live or what challenges they face.

“Receiving the Changemaker Award was entirely unexpected and a true honor, but it reflects the strength of our entire ARVA community,” said Amy Johnson. “We’re creating a learning environment where students are supported every step of the way and teachers are empowered to make a lasting impact. I’m grateful to be part of a team that values relationships, relevance and real-world preparation for every learner.”

Beyond academics, Johnson continues to guide ARVA toward new opportunities for connection and growth. From launching the ARVA Education Hub to expanding college and career readiness initiatives, she remains focused on building a future-ready environment where students are not just learning; they are thriving.
